Which Oxbow Chest? I am not sure which I want to build.

I found another Oxbow Chest which is nearly identical to the one that I have decided to build.  This one is almost the same dimensions and similar build characteristics.

But this one does not have blocked drawer fronts.

Below is the original design I was going to build. With the blocked drawer fronts.

Forget about the hardware differences.  What do you think about the drawer designs?
With blocking or without blocking?

Please let me know what you think.

Thanks,
David

  1. I prefer your most recent find, without the blocked front drawers. The oxbow/ serpentine curve flows nicely to the full height quarter columns. When I look at the block front version and compare the two, it seems to distract from the columns and the curves. It's only because you have both versions that I can see that distinction, I was all sold on the block front version when I saw the photos and the drawing you were developing at your shop, but I do prefer the unblocked version.

    1. Doug, I agree. I think it has class and smooth lines. Also, could be veneered easier if I don't build from solid wood.

  3. I have not done either. My attempts have been with flat faces. These curves are a new to me and something I want to experience. I would go without block drawers simply because I think it might be best for this beginner.

    1. Thanks Boyce, I agree. If they are made from solid wood then the curve on the block front is a little harder to clean up.
