In this video, I show a little bit of the finishing. I spray water based dye on the chest to get the color that I want. Then I spray four coats of a 2 lb. cut of blonde shellac. Then I wet sand the shellac with 400 wet/dry sand paper to partially fill the mahogany grain. I don't like the completely filled look on the finish reminds me too much of plastic.Then I apply two more coats of shellac and rub out with 0000 steel wool in between.
I wait a day or two before final rub out with 0000 steel wool and special dark wax. Then buff to a shine.
Here is a picture of the two chests together. I think they look pretty much the same.
The one on the left is the new one.
